Last weekend I met Kuniaki Tokura, a normal 50 year old man, working for a company and waking up every day at 8 like all of us, but Kuniaki has a little secret. He is a traveler for life.
Kuniaki has already been to 115 different countries. Although he comes from Japan, he lives in Singapore right now and he seems so down to earth and open that meeting him feels like seeing a cousin or an uncle – except that he’s got thousands of adventures to tell. Kuniaki´s passion for traveling first came up when he was a young boy in high school and I would say this happens to all of us at some point. The travel insect infected him with a passion for new adventures, new friends and new places to be.
I found out about Kuniaki on couchsurfing.org searching for a place to crash during my first nights in Singapore. Without hesitating Kuniaki offered me to crash at his place just in exchange for some travel stories. I loved the way he talked, a quiet but wise person pursuing his dream of traveling and enjoying life.
I loved the fact that he said Colombia was his favorite country in the world. I guess this myth I heard from other fellow travelers that my home country is an earthly paradise is a little bit true and it makes me proud every time I hear this.
As a life traveler, his travels will never stop and before finishing the last one, he is already planing the next one. I guess it´s the best addiction you can get and I love to meet people having it. Kuniaki already planed his next travels and I know that soon he will reach his goal of having visited 150 countries and set a higher one.
